Euroatlas
An opportunity for international artists to stay and work in Lisbon.
Euroatlas used to be an old sea transportation office and small warehouse located by the harbor, connecting Lisbon with Africa and South America. Now it is a place to bring together international artists with the local, connecting the local with the global.
Location
An independent artist studio space that also runs a studio residency located in the new upcoming art district of Beato-Marvila. It includes a self-contained living and working space located in a building with another studio that is used by Portuguese artists.
Visiting artists stay between one to three months alongside another studio located next to the residency aimed at a local artist. The format of this residency is about personal and independent research and is aimed at mature artists.
Opportunities
Outside of ordinary constraints such as day jobs, commissions and exhibition deadlines, residencies offer artists the time, space and resources to experiment with their work and try new approaches. By connecting with Lisbon’s art scene and being in a new context artists can take away new ideas and viewpoints that will benefit the development of their practice.
The Euroatla residency is an independent focused program opened for emerging and established artists that are looking for a place of reflection away from their usual environment and that are self-sufficient in their research. The residency is open to visual artists, researchers, writers, musicians, curators and cultural programmers. The residency is focused more on the process than the outcome. It is a non-prescriptive residency program with the aim of facilitating a space for independent research and art production.

Euroatlas has two formats of residency to choose from:
An independent residency
solely based at Euroatlas.
A partnership with Hangar
which includes an open day and curatorial support. During this kind of residency artists are encouraged to participate in artist talks, workshops and open studio events at Hangar. It is a valuable opportunity for artists to promote their work and raise their profiles.
Partnership
Euroatlas works in partnership with Hangar Art Research Centre. It is an artist-run organization that is actively engaging in artistic analysis and research by providing a space for exhibitions and artistic residencies. It strives to bring together minds from different cultural backgrounds and to support the development of international and cross-disciplinary artistic projects in the visual arts.
At Hangar there’s living and working art residency space, including a library, a photographic lab, a music studio, a coffe shop and 24-hour Wi-Fi access.
