Sara Chang Yan

Sara Chang Yan was born in Lisbon, Portugal, and works between Lisbon and the Azores.
Her practice explores drawing and spatial thinking, combining her background in architecture with visual arts to develop works that reflect attention to form, line, and perceptual experience. Her work often engages the interplay between structural precision and poetic abstraction, creating compositions that balance rigor with expressive sensitivity. She studied architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Lisbon and drawing at Ar.Co – Centro de Arte & Comunicação Visual.
Sara has been recognized with the Visual Arts Prize for Young Creators from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 2015, was selected for the Open Sessions 2016–2017 at The Drawing Center, and in 2024, Galeria Madragoa received the Focus Stand Prize for her presentation at Frieze New York.
