Lara Sousa
Lara Sousa is a filmmaker and visual artist, and the founder of Kulunga Filmes, a production company dedicated to supporting films—both documentary and fiction—by emerging filmmakers from Portuguese-speaking African countries and the Southern African region.
She recently premiered her first feature-length documentary, We, the People of the Islands, filmed in Cabo Verde, which participated in industry platforms such as Cannes Docs. Lara has been selected for several artistic residencies, including Goethe-Institut in South Africa, Cité des Arts, and Colab Now Now, among others. Her short films have received multiple awards and have been shown at festivals such as FESPACO, Dak'Art Biennale, and screenings at Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro.
Her projects have been supported by institutions including Hot Docs Blue Ice Fund, Sundance Documentary Fund, Institut Français, and the Portuguese National Fund, among others.
